After checking with the County Health Department and speaking with several well respected members of the group, we have decided to cancel the picnic scheduled for Wednesday the 21st. As many of you know, there has been a marked increase in Covid cases in Flathead County, nearly tripling in the past few weeks. The Delta Variant, which is quite probably the main source of cases has an extremely high transmission rate.
The Health Department recommended social distancing (moving tables 6 feet apart), people sitting with the group they came with, and masks, especially for the unvaccinated. With all of those restrictions, it would not be safe for us to meet in the visitor's center community room as it is really not big enough to spread out that much. And, of course, with a picnic you have to be mask free at times. The outdoor picnic shelter was a consideration however the smoke and heat are a deterrent to that option.
Join us at Lone Pine Visitor's Center for our annual summer picnic. The picnic will be catered by Ron Wilton so just bring yourself, family and/or friends and let's celebrate another chance to meet in person. We will also be holding our fund raising auction where members bring an item from home that they no longer need/use to be auctioned off. We will also be raffling off several of Ellen Metzger's beautiful quilted items. We have the center from 12 noon to 4:00 and will eat around 1:00. Hope to see you there!
***UPDATE***With the rise in cases of COVID-19 in the past few weeks, the health department is encouraging people to wear masks indoors for large gatherings as well as practicing social distancing. It is especially important for those who have not gotten a vaccination to wear a mask***
