Parkinson’s Awareness Month  April is a great time to raise awareness in your community. One way to do that is to get a Parkinson’s Awareness Month proclamation for your city or state. It’s not too late to implement one this year; learn how on our Healthy Parkinson’s Communities™ blogCommunity fundraisingParkinson’s community raising awareness. With help from our Hispanic Ambassadors, our Hispanic Community Engagement team launched a campaign to bring visibility to the fighting and resilient spirit of people with Parkinson’s and their care partners. The awareness campaign, Mi Victoria con Parkinson (#mivictoriaconparkinson), is being promoted—with great impact—on the Foundation’s Spanish-language YouTube channel. Every April, the Parkinson’s community takes action to engage and give back through creative and inspiring community fundraising. Consider joining us to make your own challenge and fundraise in support of our evidence-based programs. In Case You Missed It in MarchIn partnership with Medtronic, we published a listicle blog called “Seven Things to Know About Recovering from Deep Brain Stimulation Surgery.” March’s Live Well Today webinar centered on nutrition: a hot topic in the Parkinson’s community! Polly interviewed registered dietician Kristin Gustashaw; they discussed basic diet and nutrition for people with Parkinson’s and responded to many questions from the audience.  Polly and SoaniaPolly Dawkins and Kristin GustashawMarch was Women’s History Month: A panel of women living with Parkinson’s—including several Foundation Ambassadors—met with Devon Fulford to discuss receiving their diagnosis, changes in symptoms related to pregnancy and menstruation, self-advocacy, social pressure related to appearance and behavior, and more. We’ve already recorded a second session—to be released in late April—and have scheduled a third recording.  Devon also chatted with Kevin Kwok and Dr. Natasha Forhergill-Misbah (Tash): one of the producers of the award-winning short (~14 minutes) documentary Shaking Hands with the Devil. Tash discussed the context for the film and some of the underlying challenges for people living with Parkinson’s in parts of Africa.  Hispanic Ambassador Jaime Robledo’s Moment of Victory® in Spanish was so impactful, we published in English, as well. We published another new episode of the Parkinson’s Podcast™ in March. Sia Urroz spoke with young innovators Izzy Mokotoff and Alexis Chan, who created a special pen called SteadyScrib for people with Parkinson’s. Upcoming EventsThe Victory Summit® Event – New Orleans June 1, 2024
