Hi Friends,
In this final week of Parkinson’s Awareness Month, we are reflecting on APDA’s work fostering Hope in Progress. Since 1961 APDA has been investing in cutting-edge research and has been a funding partner in many major scientific breakthroughs.
APDA prides itself in funding the brightest talent and attracting researchers to the field who want to make a commitment to building a lifelong career in Parkinson’s.
You can read more about APDA’s research commitment HERE  APDA NORTHWEST’SRESEARCH COMMITMENT You may be aware that the biggest barrier to completing timely research is finding participants that meet a study’s criteria. This is why APDA Northwest Chapter is committed to fully funding our local Parkinson’s Disease Research Registry, which helps research happen faster. The Registry actively connects Parkinson’s patients who are interested in participating in research to the investigators conducting clinical treatment trials or studying the genetics, biochemistry, pathology, physiology, and clinical characteristics of PD. Clinical and demographic data are collected at time of enrollment and updated on an annual basis, ensuring that prospective participants are effectively matched with any studies for which they are eligible. Since the Registry’s inception it has been utilized by:47 researchersAt 16 different institutions.Enrolling in 113 research studies
24 Currently Active Studies including:STAT-PD: This study is hoping to prevent Levodopa Induced Dyskinesia in Parkinson’s disease with HMG-CoA Reductase Inhibitors.PaGeR: The Parkinson’s Genetic Research (PaGeR) Study is seeking to discover new genes that cause or increase the risk of developing PD. The Study is primarily focused on patients who have a family history of PD.TEDD: This study aims to learn more about how modern technology can be used to identify specific forms of dementia early.EARLY PDPRO: This study is a patient reported outcome assessment for patients with early Parkinson’s Disease.
“This is one of THE most important projects in the country. The Registry has enabled me to recruit quickly and easily, enabling us to focus on the science!”~ Dr. Laurie Mischley

APDA is proud to be a double-platinum sponsor of the 7th Annual World Parkinson Congress (WPC)!
The WPC provides the only international forum on Parkinson’s disease that invites all stakeholders to learn about the latest scientific discoveries, medical practices, and care initiatives that improve the lives of people living with Parkinson’s. By bringing together the full PD community, including people living with Parkinson’s, we hope to expedite the discovery of new treatments for this devastating disease until a cure is found.WP
WPC Ambassador Applications are now being accepted (May 31 deadline). There are two programs – one for PWP and one for Researchers.
